Kendall Square
Kendall Square, while being mainly an industrial area, houses much of Massachusetts Institute of Technology’s campus, as well as unique array of shops and restaurants. Kendall is home to large, modern buildings occupied primarily by major tech companies like Google, small technology startups, MIT labs and classrooms, as well as highrise luxury communities. Kendall becomes more residential towards Central Square, Inman Square, East Cambridge, and Cambridgeport. Much of Kendall’s nightlife is centered around the shops and restaurants at One Kendall Square, which is about a ten minute walk from the train station. There is an independent Landmark theater called the Kendall Square Cinema, as well as few bars and restaurants, popular amongst young professionals who work in the area. For an upscale dining experience there are some notable options like Bondir, Oleana, and The Hungry Mother—all a short walk from the square. One of Kendall’s best known stores is the Garment District, which is part thrift store, part costume shop as Halloween nears. In the winter, Kendall has a small ice skating rink, also a short walk from the train. Kendall is easily accessible via the red line and green line trains. Kendall is only one stop away from Boston on the red line and is within walking distance along the Longfellow Bridge over the Charles River. Kendall is also walking distance from the green line train at Lechmere in East Cambridge.
