Harvard University
Harvard University, founded in 1636, is located in beautiful, historic Cambridge, Massachusetts. Harvard’s main campus is located in Cambridge’s most lively square and is steps from shops, restaurants, and museums. While Harvard Square is a great option for students wanting to stay close to campus, there are other fantastic neighborhoods only a short commute away.
Central Square
Central Square serves as a less expensive alternative to Harvard Square. Central is colorful, vibrant and young. The square is diverse; Small boutiques are sandwiched between dive bars, night clubs, and high end restaurants. Central is within walking distance of Harvard Square and is only one stop away on the red line.

Porter Square
Porter Square is also walking distance from the university and is only a stop away on the red line (a five minute train ride). There is a Shaw’s supermarket, a gym, shops, bars and restaurants. Porter is a quieter alternative to Harvard Square, located between Cambridge and Somerville.

Davis Square is one of the Boston area’s most up-and-coming neighborhoods. It is two miles from Harvard’s campus, but is only a fifteen minute commute on the red line train. Davis is filled with students and young professionals and has a thriving social scene.

Inman Square
Located a bit off the beaten path, Inman is a great alternative for those looking to live some place unique and spirited that won’t require that you empty your bank account every month. Inman is a little less expensive than other Cambridge neighborhoods as it is not directly on the red line. In Inman, you’ll find independent shops, boutiques, bars and restaurants, tucked away from the main drag of Massachusetts Avenue. Getting to Inman from Tufts takes about thirty minutes by bus and forty minutes by train.
